St Leonard's Church and Ossuary, Hythe

Heritage and Gardens

This impressive church overlooks the town of Hythe and is dedicated to St. Leonard, the patron Saint of Prisoners.

It was originally built around 1090 and boasts many Norman features, as well as the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient human skulls and bones in Britain.

The collection is housed on shelves in the crypt and is open to visitors from Easter to September. The church itself can be visited all year round.
