When is Mother’s Day this year, we hear you ask? Hold the panic, because not only can we help you answer that question (ahem, 14th March), but we can also help answer the inevitable follow up question of “what are some good gift ideas for Mother’s Day during lockdown?” We know it’s another head-scratcher of an occasion to celebrate, but after this rollercoaster of a year, I think we can all agree our mums deserve a real treat.
Whether this year has taught you how much you rely on your mum to do a bit of babysitting, how good her roast dinners are (we’ve tried our own and it’s just never the same), or even just opened your eyes to how much you miss giving your mum a hug, we’ve got more than enough ideas to help you show her just much she’s appreciated and missed.
While we can’t yet go heading out for afternoon tea, we can certainly arrange for a little indulgence from home with the Sparkling Afternoon Tea care of Faversham favourites, Macknade. Packed with Macknade’s own jam, clotted cream, Wingham Bakery scones, tea, cake and Langlois sparkling rose, you’d be forgiven for wanting to order one of these delicious hampers for yourself as well (the excuse of afternoon tea together over Facetime does have a certain ring to it). But if your mum’s more of a savoury lady, we recommend Macknade’s Spanish Kitchen hamper for a Spanish paella experience from home.
Pamper away with one of Biddenden Vineyard's boxes delivered straight to their door. The Biddenden Pamper Box features a bottle of Biddenden Demi-Sec Ortega, Fudge Kitchen sea salted caramel fudge, candles, Romney Marsh Wools hand and body lotion, and more local goodies to help your mum relax and indulge. While the Mother’s Day Delights Box features the Gribble Bridge Sparkling Rose 2017 and Romney Marsh Wools lanolin rich toiletries for pampered perfection.
Perfect for spoiling your partner and kids this Mother’s Day, the Solley’s Scooping Kits include nearly 5 litres of delicious Solley’s ice cream in a flavour of your choice, along with cones, wafers, sweets and decorations for a taste of summer days to come. Trust us, if you’re feeling like you need to show your partner just how great a mum she is (ahem, home-schooling), then it doesn’t get much better than this Kent favourite’s ice cream from home.
Crafted from the fleeces of the sheep that graze Kent’s glorious Romney Marsh, you’ll find some luxurious gifts in the Romney Marsh Wools online shop. Think cosy natural wool slippers, knitted socks, indulgent beauty products and snuggly wool blankets made for relaxing on the sofa with a good book and a glass of wine.
Give your mum the gift of something to really look forward to this year with a Leeds Castle gift voucher. Whether your mum is a whiz on the greens and fancies dusting off her skills with a golf coaching session, tucking into afternoon tea, or a year’s entry to the castle, her vouchers can be used for a whole host of experiences. Or, why not take a peek in the online shop for Kentish gift ideas, or go really wild and adopt one of the castle’s resident birds on her behalf? Trust us, there’s something for every mum here!
While we can’t peruse the delights of Canterbury’s city centre shops in person just yet, we can take a look through their online shops for gift ideas. With independent boutiques offering everything from flowers and jewellery, to candles, crafts and pottery, we can guarantee you’ll find plenty of presents for your mum, all with that added personal and local touch. Now that’s got to be better than desperately trawling through Amazon (don’t worry, we've been there too).
We’re just going to be honest here and say that this gift may well be a gift for you too, but we really don’t think your mum will mind when you roll out the picnic blanket in the glorious surroundings of Gusbourne’s Boot Hill vineyard. Book picnic tickets for dates from 12th April and you and your mum will be treated to sensational views, the best of Kent and Sussex produce packed in your very own picnic bag, not to mention, a bottle of Gusbourne Brut Reserve and reusable glassware to help raise a toast to your mum in style.
If your mum is a real gin lover, we highly recommend Copper Rivet’s very own take on a Mother’s Day afternoon tea for two. While this tea of course offers the traditional trappings of freshly prepared sandwiches, local produce and delicious cakes, she’ll also be treated to G&T infused tea, Son of a Gun fruit scones with clotted cream and jam, Copper Rivet’s own strawberry macarons, and a bottle of Dockyard Gin to top things off!
