Our top nine Instagram posts of 2021

Josh Carter
31st December 2021

We've had a 2021 full of beautiful scenes, magical weather and of course plenty of stunning sunsets here in Kent. In this exploration of our most popular posts of the past year, take a look back and get excited for another year to come of visiting and exploring our county's most picturesque places...

Golden hour in Eynsford

A warm summer's evening dipping your toes in the River Darent, with the backdrop of the pretty village of Eynsford - bliss! Our followers also agreed it was a suitably soothing photo as it was our most popular of 2021. If you're planning to visit (which we highly recommend) take a read of the area's top attractions and places to see

Castle Farm Kent

Posted shortly after the England football team took second place at Euro 2020, this stunning shot of sunset at the iconic Castle Farm and its lavender fields gave a little respite to broken hearts. With purple headed flowers for as far the eye can see, you'll feel as if you have made a trip to southern France and wandered into Provence's fields...

Sunrise at Kingsgate Bay

Thanet's beaches and cliffs need no introduction and are always a go-to for beach wanders at any time there's light in the sky, being especially photographic at dawn like this shot proves. With the tranquil blue water lapping up against the sand, we're dreaming of beach days in the year to come. Take a look at Visit Thanet's beach guide here to plan your trip.

Canterbury's Crooked House

Our most popular #MidweekMystery photo was (sorry, spoilers!) Canterbury's 'Crooked House', also known as Sir John Boys House. Being one of the city's most snapped landmarks, the house inspired the Charles Dickens line 'a very old house bulging over the road…leaning forward, trying to see who was passing on the narrow pavement below', bringing the house to life.

Westgate Gardens

Quite simply, Westgate Gardens is a jewel in Canterbury's crown. With its meandering rivers perfect for boating down on a summers day, add in a garden and you've got views for any day! We're dreaming of when springtime rolls around and this border bursts into life once more. See all that Canterbury and its surroundings have to offer with our top suggestions

Chilham

Noted for often appearing on the small and big screen, Chilham and its quintessential Englishness has been perfectly captured in this shot - think small pubs, well kept historic houses and views of the Downs all around. If you're in the area for a day or two as well, there's plenty more where this comes from, so explore some more of Ashford and get your fix of countryside perfection

Rochester

Rainy days needn't spoil a day out, and they certainly don't spoil a scene as this photograph proves! A visit to this Medway town is well worth it as a wander can uncover all sorts of hidden gems and icons whether they be Rochester Cathedral or Rochester Castle. Find out more about the area with our top tips

Thanet's beaches

After describing above just how beautiful these beaches are, need we say anymore than show this photo? If you need a little more convincing, we're asking you to just take a wander along the Viking Coastal Trail and you'll stumble on little chalk paths just like this with beaches that just must be explored, whether you fancy a dip or searching for crabs.

Aylesford

With a rich history dating back thousands of years, the small village of Aylesford is another (yes we have rather a lot!) picturesque spot of Kent. This particular shot takes in the recognisable medieval bridge that sits across the River Medway, viewing the older section of the village. Explore our top suggestions to delve even further into Tonbridge's history here.
